One Day To Give – What’s In Your Bag?

Posted on Apr 29, 2015 in Families In Need, Helping Families, Special Events

Summer time means no more pencils, no more books, and no more teachers….well, you know. But it also means no more free and reduced school breakfasts or lunches that over sixty percent of St. Lucie County students receive. Sadly, it’s also the time of year when the shelves of local food pantries are closest to empty all year long. To help ensure that no child goes hungry in St. Lucie County during those lean summer months, the Van Duzer Foundation has teamed up with the St. Lucie County Fire District for the fifth year in a row to coordinate One Day to Give on Wednesday, April 29th. Together, they want to know, “What’s in your bag?” The premise is simple. Please check your home cupboards for canned foods, non-perishable items, peanut butter, dried beans and rice, cereals, canned tuna, and powdered milk. If you’ve got an extra can or...

Officer Peter Chunn has long been the man you could count on to have your back and keep you safe. Currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment in preparation for an upcoming surgery, Officer Chunn, who is normally protecting everyone else’s life, has been unable to work since August. After seven years on the beat for the citizens of Port St. Lucie, it’s time for the community to come to the aid of one of its finest community servants. On Wednesday, October 10th, the Van Duzer Foundation will be hosting a fundraiser from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Big Apple Pizza and Pasta at 2311 South 35th Street, Fort Pierce (directly across from IRSC) to benefit the Chunn family and...

Triple Play for Taylor

Posted on Sep 23, 2012 in Families In Need, Helping Families, Past Events

As you know, the Van Duzer Foundation likes to mix things up when we throw a fundraising party. It’s not going to be any different this time around as we pull out all the stops for 14 year-old Taylor Montpetit – a Fort Pierce resident with a serious illness. For most of his young life, Taylor has been battling Primary Immune Deficiency (PID) – an illness which leaves him unable to participate in many activities that would be considered normal for a child of his age, and one that leaves him exceptionally vulnerable to infections and illnesses which can become life-threatening. As of this writing, the family is also awaiting a possible diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis in addition to the PID. It’s a lot for a young boy to handle and has taken its toll on the family both emotionally and financially. On Wednesday, September 23rd, from 4 p.m....

Debi Reese

Posted on Aug 22, 2012 in Families In Need, Helping Families, Past Events

Debi Reese has enough love to fill a room. She loves the students she works with at IRSC; she loves her three dogs, three cats, good friends, decorating, making people happy, and holidays. She’s just one of those people who finds the good in everyone and makes everyone feel loved. But right now, Debi needs a little love from all of us. The widowed mother of two is battling leiomyosarcoma, an aggressive form cancer, and even though she’s incredibly brave, it’s a tough battle. The Van Duzer Foundation, along with Debi’s friends and family want to show the Port St. Lucie resident how much love one community can share. Whether you’ve had a chance to meet Debi or not, you’re invited to join the celebration to honor and uplift this local woman who generously shares so much of her time and gives so much of her humor and talent...
