Jackie’s Road to Recovery

Posted on Feb 24, 2010 in Families In Need, Past Events

Just before Thanksgiving, 2009, Lakewood Park resident Jackie Beck went on a mission of mercy to help her estranged husband with a medical condition. That act of kindness nearly cost Jackie her life. The victim of an attempted murder-suicide, Jackie was shot twice, in the face and in the abdomen. She was left for dead, but her strong will to live, exceptional medical care, and the faith of her children and loving friends pulled Jackie through nine hours of brain surgery, a coma, and many complications. It’s a long road to recovery, but Jackie is strong and has the love of her family, friends, the respect of other St. Lucie County Employees, and the support of the entire community. Wednesday, February 24th, please come out and share your love and a few dollars to help Jackie on the road to recovery. The Van Duzer Foundation, whose mission is to...

Celebrating Suzanne

Posted on Feb 3, 2010 in Families In Need, Past Events

Last night’s Celebration of Suzanne DePeppo was a sweet evening. In addition to a great turnout of generous people, the desserts were delicious and plentiful, and the celebrity salespersons made the evening so much fun for everyone. If you were involved, thank you so much for helping show so much love to the family. As of today, we’d raised $6,500, and probably a little more will trickle in through the rest of the week. Mitch put up some fabulous photos, so if you were there, look for your smiling face. If you weren’t there, peek anyway and see how much fun you missed. Please keep Suzanne’s family in your thoughts, and be sure to hug your own family just a little tighter, knowing that every hug you share could be the one they remember forever. Thank you again, St. Lucie County....

Bon Voyage for Brandon!

Posted on Aug 5, 2009 in Families In Need, Past Events

Bon Voyage for Brandon! Cincinnati or Bust! In early August, Brandon Negassar will be leaving for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with a big dream. Brandon wants to get well so he can attend school like other fifteen year old children, go to ball games and concerts and have a life free of the constant pain he’s known for his entire life. The Port St. Lucie teen has been diagnosed with Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa – a genetically inherited disease which manifests itself through skin blistering, scarring, pain and high risk of infection. Brandon’s skin is so fragile that wearing a cotton T-shirt or accepting a hug from a friend can result in blistering and life-threatening wounds. Though there is no cure for Brandon’s illness, his medical professionals have referred Brandon to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (CCHMC) to be assessed by a team of experts in Epidermolyis Bullosa. At CCHMC, Brandon will...
